“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

– Galatians 3:27

Introduction

In the New Testament, two sacraments are given to the Christian church: the Lord’s Supper and baptism. We recognize that many Christians practice believer’s baptism, but for us personally, all of our family members were baptized within their first two weeks of birth. Our family practices infant baptism. However, we want to emphasize that no matter what you believe, this blog post can be applicable to you! Through baptism the Triune God puts His name on us and makes us members of His family, and we can have confidence that He who began a good work in us will complete it.

Why We Celebrate Baptisms

Our baptisms are not something that we have a personal memory of, but because of their incredible importance, we make an effort to celebrate the days they occurred. We like to think of our baptisms as something like a spiritual birthday. We want our kids to feel a true fondness and joy when they think of the day they were baptized, so we do our best to make the day fun and special. It’s so easy to celebrate things like birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. But spiritual milestones are just as important.

How We Celebrate Baptisms

Baptism is a sweet gift of the Lord…so we like to have a “sweet treat” during the day. Sometimes this is donuts in the morning, and other times we choose to have ice cream in the evening. We also make sure to have a special time in front of our Family Altar. We have a specific baptism candle that we light and say a prayer as a family, thanking God for making us His children. We also sing the hymn, “God’s Own Child, I Gladly Say It.”

We have six of these days that we celebrate each year, but we also have a plaque hung up above our Family Altar that lists our names and baptism days. We leave it up year-round to remind us of the importance of our baptisms.

Conclusion

Celebrating the baptism days of your family members is a wonderful way to remember God’s goodness in salvation. We encourage you to find a way to do this that works for your family. It doesn’t need to be complicated or formal; rather, it should be something fun that everyone looks forward to. Even a song and an ice cream cone can make a lasting memory!

Key Points

  • Celebrating baptism days is a fun way to remember this important event in our lives and emphasize the importance of it to our children.
  • Celebrating baptism anniversaries is a good way to show your children that spiritual milestones are just as important as physical ones.
